Girls final: China-Japan! Boys' semifinals underway

The two Asian representatives earned the finals in straight matches. Now up to the Boys

Riva del Garda knows its first finalists. The two semifinals of the Girls’ Team Event at the ITTF World Junior Table Tennis Champs gave a clear virdict: China and Japan are undoubtedly the strongest line ups in the game, and will deservedly contend the gold medal tomorrow at the Baltera Fair.

China eased through Romania, the only non-Asian team to reach the final four in both tournaments. Adina Diaconu and her teammates surrendered with a clear 3:0, after managing to hold up with overpowering Yingsha Sun, Wang Manyu and Shi Xunyao only in brief stints. Same result, after a more even contest, came for Japan, helped by a brilliant showing of Miyu Kato to see off a solid South Korea. Tomorrow at 17.00, the China and Japan will face off for the World title, whilst Romania and South Korea can celebrate a valuable bronze medal: against such opponents, it almost shines like gold.

The Boys Team Event’s semifinals are now underway, with the same matchups of the Girls’ event: Japan-South Korea and Romania-China.
